Ohmega Watts was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, by West Indian Parents from the Island of Jamaica. He lived in Brooklyn 8 years before moving to Laurelton, Queens, NY.
He grew up listening to many types of music including reggae, calypso, soca, 80′s radio pop and hip-hop, but only started to take a serious interest in music when he was around 11 years old. He gravitated towards hip-hop, listening to “Golden Age” artists including Run–D.M.C., LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Dana Dane, BDP, Eric B. and Rakim, Pete Rock and CL Smooth and Gang Starr, but the artists who influenced him the most were artists in the Native Tongues Posse, such as A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, and Black Sheep.
Producing since 1997 and MCing since 1993 the Ohmega Watts resume include two solo records on Ubiquity Records, The Find (2005) and Watts Happening (2007). MC/producer of the group Lightheaded (Tres Records) and a 7" under the name M64, which was comprised of Ohmega on production and Ragen Fykes on the vocals, released on Record Breakin (2009.) Ohmega is also an avid DJ who has toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad including Australia, the E.U. and Japan all the while expanding his record collection, and musical influences. He's performed, DJ'd alongside and supported artists/bands including: Galactic, Lifesavas, The Breakestra, De La Soul, Quantic, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Waajeed, Ge-Ology, Kon & Amir, DJ Spinna, Bobbito Garcia, Rich Medina, Cosmo Baker, and the list goes on. He's also a freelance Graphic Designer/Photographer making him a full-time creative.
Pieces of a Dream was released on Mellow Orange in Oct. 2013 which was 5 years since is last solo endeavor. He remained busy with a few remixes, sharing a 12" with Kon as they remixed some modern soul of 1980s Bay Area artist 'Twilight', also dropping a track for the Mellow Orange x Expasions Collective 'First Light' comp and rounding off the year with a remix of a track featuring MC/Producer Oddisee produced by Quiet Dawn, and en exclusive track for Grown Kids Radio comp titled 'Off The Beaten Tracks'. Watts has a lot more up his sleeves for 2016. Stay tuned.
